October 28th afternoon
Valuing scientific research: tools and procedures
Cooperation opportunities between research infrastructures and industry
October 29th morning
Technology transfer and funding opportunities
Regional initiatives and best practices
Over the last decades, the application of structural biology techniques
has become an indispensable tool for elucidating fundamental aspects of living
organisms. The acquisition of structural data represents a valuable means:
(A) to design and develop new molecular entities able to modulate important
biological processes, and
(B) to define the mechanism of action of known biomolecules whose
pharmaceutical / biotechnological properties need to be optimized.
The transfer of the technical aspects related to NMR and associated techniques may generate specific problems due to the complexity of the instrumentation and the highly specialized competences needed to fully exploit these methodologies.
In this scenario, this joint event has been designed to provide not only technical information, but it also represents an important occasion to link together different players in the field.
Technical aspects have been covered through the illustration of the opportunities that NMR techniques offer for addressing problems in the drug discovery process. Moreover, the role of European infrastructure projects in the creation of large scale facilities will be described. Tools and strategies adopted for valuing the results of the scientific activities will be also addressed. Particular emphasis will be given to the management of the Intellectual Property and to business development.
A major goal of the event is to provide different players of the field (academic institutions, private companies, technology transfer agencies, technostructures, incubators and funding agencies) the opportunity to share their experience.
The venue is located in Napoli (Italy), via Mezzocannone 8 in one of the buildings,
part of central core of the University "FEDERICO II".
The sets of directions described below are intended for those arriving in Naples via the
airport or by train.

Google map or take a
virtual tour around the venue (by Google Street View)
The airport is located 5 Km from Via Mezzocannone, therefore it is better to take a shuttle, bus or a taxi. At the arrival terminal, the ALIBUS shuttle service connects the airport with the downtown area. The stop closest to Via Mezzocannone is less than 50 meters from it. When returning from the venue to the airport, the shuttle departs every 30 minutes from 6:30 am until 11:30 pm. The ticket costs 3.00 Euro and can be bought aboard the shuttle.
